Cornhill

Remembering the local Railway

On the left, a passenger train (possibly the very last one) taking the Wooler Branch. Today this is the “parting of the ways” on the “railway” footpaths.

On the right the same train returning to Coldstream (Cornhill) Station. The double tracks are the Tweedmouth to Kelso “Main Line”.

Moments later the train arrives at Coldstream Station and draws through the station.

The engine in the station is ready to take the train onwards.

The picture on the right gives an indication of the complexity of the railway freight sidings. A map of these is available here

The final picture in this series shows the same passenger train (an enthusiasts special) about to leave for Kelso after the engine change. Health and Safety experts please cover your eyes for this picture!!

The first four pictures have been taken from a film/video  by Michael Clemens and our thanks go to him for his kind permission to use them (and especially for his direct provision of this final picture) here. Information on his book covering local railways is here
